About lilARIUM
At lilARIUM, everything started with a turtle named Iroh—and a love for creating beautiful spaces, for both people and pets.
With a diploma in interior design and a lifelong passion for hands-on building and crafting, our founder was always making custom pieces for friends, family, and animals. As the reptile family began to grow, so did the need for enclosures that were both functional and stylish—especially in a smaller home where every inch of space mattered. Store-bought options just didn’t cut it. So, each habitat was thoughtfully designed and lovingly built from scratch, blending design expertise with a deep care for the animals who would live in them.
After adding a pygmy bearded dragon to the crew, then golden-tailed geckos and baby water dragons, we found ourselves completely immersed in the world of reptiles. Within a year, our home was shared with thirteen reptiles—four of them blue tongue skinks. The first skink stole our hearts, and from that moment on, we were all in. What began with custom enclosures turned into a full passion for breeding bluetongue skinks and caring for these incredible creatures.
That’s how lilARIUM came to be.
We bring together a love for reptiles, a background in design, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship. Every lilARIUM enclosure is built with purpose—designed to meet your pet’s needs while looking right at home in yours. All enclosures are structurally reviewed by a studying engineer, adding an extra layer of care and consideration.
Welcome to lilARIUM—where design meets reptile care, and every enclosure is made with passion.
Breeding And Our Facilities
Our Breeders
Our Blue Tongues are only introduced into our breeding program once they have reached a minimum age of 2–3 years and a healthy weight of 700–800 grams. This ensures every individual is fully mature and able to breed safely and ethically. Any Blue Tongues that do not meet these requirements are lovingly maintained as pets only.
Our breeding facility is housed in a separate, temperature-monitored building designed to maintain ideal conditions throughout the year. Temperatures are carefully regulated between 12–32°C, depending on the season.
Each enclosure is individually fitted with overhead lighting and heat sources to encourage natural basking behaviours and support overall wellbeing.
To provide both comfort and enrichment, every enclosure includes a clean hide and a rotating variety of enrichment items such as logs, branches, rocks, artificial plants, pipes, cardboard etc. Fresh water and clean food bowls are checked and maintained daily.
During the warmer months, we use a clean, enriching substrate that encourages natural digging behaviours. During brumation and breeding season, this is replaced with safe, non-toxic cat litter and artificial grass coverage to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and safety during breeding and birth. Blue Tongues are ovoviviparous, meaning they give birth to live young rather than laying eggs.
Under 2 Years
Our indoor, 24/7 heated room is dedicated to housing Blue Tongues up to 2 years of age in a stable and carefully controlled environment. Each enclosure is additionally fitted with its own individual overhead heat source operating 24/7 to encourage natural basking behaviour, support thermoregulation, and promote healthy growth and development.
We maintain consistent temperatures both day and night to provide a stable environment that supports strong growth, reduces stress, and drastically lowers the risk of illness in young Blue Tongues during these critical early stages of life.
Each enclosure is also designed with welfare-focused enrichment in mind. We use enriching substrate to encourage natural digging and exploratory behaviours, helping to support both physical activity and mental stimulation. Fresh water and clean food bowls are provided and checked daily to ensure optimal hygiene and nutrition. In addition, rotating enrichment items are regularly introduced to provide variety in texture, encourage natural behaviours, and assist with healthy shedding cycles.
Our Babies
Our baby Blue Tongues are separated before 10 days of age to ensure their safety and prevent nips or bite injuries. They are housed individually in tubs equivalent in size to Vision V-28 tubs, where they may remain for up to 6 months. Each baby is monitored daily to ensure they are healthy, feeding well, clean and thriving.
From around 3 to 9 months, juveniles are transitioned into larger grow-out tubs to provide additional space and allow for more enrichment and texture variety without limiting their ability to move and stretch comfortably.
All tubs are maintained with a consistent 32°C hotspot both day and night to support healthy growth and digestion.
Between 6 months and 2 years of age, Blue Tongues are gradually moved into our full-sized adult enclosures within our 24/7 heated facility.
Babies and juveniles are transitioned to larger enclosures based on their individual development, including growth rate, size, confidence, and feeding habits. Each animal is assessed regularly to ensure the timing of upgrades matches their needs, allowing them to move into more spacious environments when they are physically and behaviourally ready. This individual approach helps support healthy development and ensures each Blue Tongue has appropriate space and enrichment at every stage of growth.
